Rod Stewart Live in Edmonton Video
I wake up with a smile on my face because… I’m going out to see a live concert by Mr. “Do You Think I’m Sexy” himself – Rod Stewart Live in Edmonton at Roger’s Place.
Growing up, my parents must have had a few of his CDs, because I somehow know nearly all of his hits – without actually owning any of his albums.
I’ve actually seen him live in Edmonton twice. If you can believe it, his was the first concert I ever attended. I was 13 or 14 years old, and my uncle had an extra ticket to his show. He took me – and I was like “Who is Rod Stewart?”.
“Oh, you’ll recognize a song or two”, he said, being more than a little coy.
Suddenly, there was teenage me, at Rod Steward Live in Edmonton at Rexall Place (or was it the Colloseum then?). I was hearing hit – after hit – after hit, all of which I had no idea I would recognize …
- Downtown Train
- Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?
- Young Turks
- Forever Young
- Have I Told You Lately?
- Tonight’s The Night
- The First Cut is the Deepest
- Rythm of My Heart
And, of course, Maggie May. Which, at the time I didn’t recognize. I do remember my uncle saying a few times, “He hasn’t played Maggie May yet.”.
Turns out, he was saving it for the encore.
When he returned to the stage for his last performance of the evening, he announced (regarding Maggie May) “I’ve got a new song to play, wanted to try it out on you first”.
The joke was completely lost on me. Regardless, it was a great concert, and I still remember vividly it as my first.
Fast forward to 2018, and I hear that he will be in town again. Of course, I get tickets… (which isn’t always affordable, but this seems to be my summer of concerts!) And on Apr 6, 2018, I take a seat to enjoy his music yet again. Maybe even more than the classic hits by an amazing artist, I enjoy a personal, nostalgic trip down my own memory lane. Back more than half my life ago – to the first concert I’d ever seen: Rod Stewart Live in Edmonton.
